Welcome to MGJ People Support

MGJ People Support specialises in managing the welfare of people affected by traumatic incidents.  We have extensive experience of working with a variety of organisations ranging from the NHS and other emergency services to all types of commercial companies and charitable organisations.

We offer the following services:

Training to enable people to help others cope in dealing with traumatic incidents, stressful situations, and the Covid-19 Pandemic

Supporting those affected by traumatic incidents, large or small scale, stressful situations, any stage of Redundancy and the Covid-19 Pandemic

Training Courses

Our training courses are usually delivered face to face and, in the present COVID-19 situation, they can also be provided in an ‘On-Line’ format using one of the usual video conferencing platforms on Zoom, MS Teams etc.  The on-line version has the addtional advantage that delegates not not have to travel to a training venue.

 Examples of our courses are:

  • Patient Safety Incident Debriefing and Staff Support in the NHS (including Psychological First Aid and Compassion Fatigue)
  • Training Trainers to run the above course
  • Psychological First Aid in a Major Incident Response (including Humanitarian Assistance)
  • Psychological First Aid in the Emergency Services
  • Psychological First Aid for Educational Psychologists
  • Psychological First Aid in commercial or industrial organisations
  • Family Liaison in Environmental Health
  • Managing the Personal Impact of Dealing with Fatalities

Psychological First Aid (PFA) support for those affected by traumatic incidents

We can provide a short notice response to the needs of people affected by the type of incidents described below. Our lead responder, Gerry Jackson, has been providing this service for more than 30 years, is very well known in the field and very experienced.

It is usually recommended that the response is delivered between 3 and 5 days after the incident.  The response would usually be an ‘on-site’ visit to provide support, either in group or individual sessions to help people talk though what has happened and manage their reactions and symptoms. Support can also be provided ‘virtually’ either by telephone or by video  link.  Incidents include, but are not restricted to, the following:

  • Terrorist attacks
  • The COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Major incidents and disasters
  • Violent crime, including bank raids
  • Deaths in the workplace, including suicide and murder
  • Fatal accidents
  • Major evacuations from outside the UK in political unrest situations
  • People affected by other incidents outside the UK
  • Redundancy

Feedback from our clients

I met Gerry through attending one of his excellent Psychological First Aid training courses. His vast experience and his gentle humanity shone through. Since then Gerry has adapted his course to suit the needs of my consultant colleagues in our Acute NHS Trust and then, as COVID 19 set in, adapted it again to be delivered on line. In addition to his courses, he has been an invaluable member of our staff psychological response team both advising, but more particularly, working with and supporting staff in a counselling capacity, through this enormous challenge. He has worked initially in ED, and more recently as part of the team working with ICU staff. Gerry knows what skills he has and where these lie, he never oversteps this and this, along with his calm and gentle yet business-like manner  is what  makes him so utterly trusted by the team; I can’t recommend him highly enough.

Dr Liz Donovan, Medical Lead – staff Support, University Hospital, Southampton

“Absolutely excellent course.  Probably the best I have been on.  I will be highly recommending this to others.”

“Excellent facilitator.  Incredibly knowledgeable, open and compassionate.  Really well led and he made sure everyone participated in discussions.”

  • Facilitation via Zoom and breakout rooms worked really well given current limitations.
  • Anecdotal stories based on Gerry’s previous experience were interesting and relevant and helped illustrate the points he was making.
  • Humorous style and relaxed delivery welcomed.
  • Good balance of facilitator input, case studies and group discussion.
  • Calm and well-paced delivery and good humoured.
  • Clear and good at keeping everyone involved.
  • Really well structured and thought out.  Clear and incredibly well presented.
  • The break halfway through each session was really helpful. Working online requires a different level of concentration so a break is important.
